Even as several government and private entities are taking up targeted campaigns to help people understand the importance of vaccination, there is still a tremendous amount of vaccine hesitancy, on a global scale. A new study from the US comes as a wake-up call for the unvaccinated populace as it indicates that those who are unvaccinated are 11 times more likely to fall fatally ill due to the novel Coronavirus.
The study is front-lined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and indicates that the vaccines remain highly effective against severe COVID, and resulting hospitalisation and death. The study has tracked over 600,000 cases across 13 US states, from April to mid-July, and indicates that unvaccinated people are 4.5 times more likely to fall prey to infections, as compared to fully vaccinated people. Further, unvaccinated people are 10 times more prone to hospitalization and 11 times more likely to die of the disease, indicating the imperative nature of getting vaccinated at the earliest possible time.
While the potency of vaccination is slipping slightly over the course of time, vaccinated people are still extremely safe compared to the population who is skeptical of getting the doses.
