Marking another golden pinnacle in the digital payment system, PM Modi will launch e-RUPI on 2 August through video conferencing. Being cashless and contactless, e-RUPI connects the sponsors with the beneficiaries digitally without any physical interaction. It is an SMS string e-voucher or QR code that will be delivered to the beneficiaries’ mobile.
e-RUPI is a person, purpose-specific digital payment that is developed by the efforts of the National Payments Corporation of India, Department of Financial Services, National Health Authority, and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
e-RUPI services help a user to redeem their vouchers without any digital payment apps, internet banking service, or card. As this digital payment service is pre-paid in nature, it assures timely payment to the service provider without any intermediaries.
Ensuring a leak-proof delivery service, e-RUPI can be used under schemes that provide national support, drugs under Mother and Child Welfare schemes, fertilizer subsidies, drugs, and diagnostics in regards to schemes like Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, TB eradication program, etc. The digital vouchers can also be leveraged by the private sector for employee welfare and corporate social responsibility programs.
