With the ongoing pandemic and the constant work from home, many employees end up feeling burnt out and stressed. This makes it difficult to contribute efficiently at work and makes the home environment tenuous.

As you sit at home and stare at your laptop, it may feel like balancing your professional and personal life is very challenging, but you must realize that it is essential for a well-rounded life. Many a times, your work may take precedence over everything else as the inherent ambition to succeed makes you forget your own health and well-being. In such situations, creating a cohesive work-life balance or work-life integration is of extreme importance as it enhances everything from our physical, emotional and mental well-being to our professional output.

Even as you take steps towards the ideal model, it is important to accept that there is no ‘perfect’ work-life balance that works for everyone. You have to figure out your own method. It is best to strive for a realistic schedule rather than one people term perfect. You know your work and life priorities better than anyone and it is time to leverage this knowledge to your benefit. Be patient with yourself and accept that it is okay to focus more on work on some days and pursue your hobbies or spend time with your close ones on other days. And remember, Rome wasn’t built in a day. It will take you time and effort to achieve your ideal balance and it is okay to keep working towards the optimal situation.

Here are some tips to follow:

Make your health a priority

Your main concern should be your overall physical, emotional and mental health. If you feel that you have trouble with anxiety or depression, you should consider attending therapy sessions as it might benefit you. Alternatively, if you are afflicted by some chronic illness, it is best to take some sick days to recuperate. Do not overburden yourself as that could lead to more difficulties along the way.

Try to unplug whenever possible

As we manoeuvre the stresses created by work, it is important to cut ties once in a while. Staying away from the outside world for brief intervals helps you rejuvenate yourself so that you are better prepared for work. Such breaks also help you recover from weekly stress and make you more creative as shutting out the outside world gives you space for other thoughts and ideas to emerge, making you more successful at work and home.

Carve out time to be with yourself and your loved ones

We all know that it is important to do our best when it comes to our professional life. However, that doesn’t mean that you neglect all other aspects. You must consider the activities or hobbies that make you happy and indulge in them to keep yourself happy and fit. While your schedule may be hectic, it is important to carve out time for yourself and your loved ones.

Ensure proper boundaries between work and personal time

As you move ahead in your professional life, it is important to set boundaries for yourself to avoid burnout. Keep separate schedules – once you leave work, avoid worrying about next day’s work. It is advisable to use separate browsers, emails or filters for your work and personal media. Be sure to maintain a marked demarcation between the two spaces.

Fix your goals and priorities

Finally, to create an optimal work life balance, pay attention to the time when you are most productive at work. Keep that time aside for your most important work activities. Do not waste this time on looking through emails or social media as these are major time-wasting tasks that affect your attention and productivity. Build an efficient structure that enhances your work productivity, thus offering you more free time to focus on your life after office.
